Kellogg's Nutrition - Get a Taste for the Healthy Life™

Using GDAs

Both GDAs and DVs are based on a 2,000-calorie diet, which is the daily requirement for an average adult and suitable for the majority of healthy people.

Everyone can use the information on the Nutrition at a Glance™ tool, whether your individual recommendations are more or less than the GDA. This is because GDAs are not a recommendation or a target you need to achieve. Instead, GDAs represent an acceptable intake that is appropriate for the majority of people. You can think of them as a benchmark... and the percent GDA (%GDA) you see on the Nutrition at a Glance tool helps you understand how a serving of our cereal contributes to those benchmark values.

You can use GDAs to evaluate, compare, and select Kellogg's® cereals that are right for you.

  • Evaluate Nutrients: The %GDA shows at a glance if there is "a little" or "a lot" of a nutrient in a serving of food. In general, 5% or less is considered "a little" and 20% or more is considered "a lot."
  • Make Comparisons: Use GDAs to compare the nutrients in one Kellogg cereal product to another. Because serving sizes can differ, we've clearly labeled the serving size on Nutrition at a Glance™ so you can do just that.
  • Track Your Food Choices: You can use GDAs to help you select products that help you meet your goals. If you are trying to moderate your intake of a certain nutrient (such as fat or sodium), you should strive to consume 100% or less of the GDA. For nutrients you want to be sure to get enough of (such as fiber or vitamin A) you should aim to reach at least 100% of the GDA. You can use DVs on the Nutrition Facts Panel

As always, it is important to discuss your goals with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your diet or exercise routine.

Guideline Daily Amounts provide the facts

Here are a few things that are important to understand about the Nutrition at a Glance™ tool:

  • The tool is not a replacement for the Nutrition Facts Panel. Our GDA system complements and draws attention to key information found on the Nutrition Facts Panel.
  • GDAs are not new recommendations or standards for the way you should eat. GDAs are a new way to look at and think about Daily Values displayed on the Nutrition Facts Panel.
  • Nutrition at a Glance™ provides facts. GDAs mirror the information currently provided by the Nutrition Facts Panel and offer an additional tool for you to make informed decisions about what you buy and eat.
  • The tool does not make the choice for you. This tool provides factual information so that you can decide – at a glance – what is right for you and your family. The choices are up to you, and "right" is different for every person. The GDA tool is not a sign or symbol for products we've predetermined are "good" or "best."
